US Army Food Development Center Seeks Emerging Companies for Alternative Protein Evaluation in Combat Rations
The US Army Food Development Center has launched the Combat Ration's Alternative Protein effort to evaluate novel proteins in combat ration components, and is seeking an introduction to emerging companies, particularly those that have created proteins via precision fermentation. The team is focused on understanding alternative protein's nutritional composition and commercial feasibility for inclusion in ration components. Temasek, Toyota back climate biotech firm Living Carbon
Singapore's Temasek has led a $21m funding round for Living Carbon, a climate tech firm aiming to improve the carbon-absorbing capacity of trees, according to the company's CEO. The series A funding, which brought the total raised by the firm to $36m, was also backed by Toyota, Lowercarbon Capital and Felicis Ventures. Living Carbon, which uses biotechnology to enhance trees' carbon-absorbing abilities, plans to use the funding to develop up to five million saplings and research new products.
